Supplier/Quality Engineer

 

We are looking for a Supplier/Quality Engineer to ensure supplier and internal product quality. This person will develop and apply supplier quality management systems to ensure supplier product quality while also complying with and improving quality management systems for internal product quality.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiate, drive, monitor and close necessary supplier corrective activities together with Quality, Sourcing, Operations and Engineering (8D)
  • Travel to suppliers to develop and support the following activities:
  • Root Cause & Corrective Measures for escapes
  • Verification of effectiveness of corrective measures
  • New, replacement and/or revised part qualification
  • Layered and/or detailed process audits with supporting improvement plan
  • Alignment of measurement strategies/tools/equipment (includes Gage R&R) per engineering drawing requirements
  • Prepare monthly data files to identify root cause corrective measures for top problems in factory and suppliers
  • Support PPAP packages as needed for customers and issuing to suppliers
  • Support investigation, analyze and complete processing of customer returns reports; develop and implement containment RCCM as required
  • Complete 8D activity/response to customer requests/quality concerns as needed
  • Ensure operators are following processes as documented to comply with the quality management system
  • Evaluate and disposition non-conforming material with support of design and other functions
  • Support manufacturing, engineering and other functions of the organization as needed to maintain and improve business processes
  • Participate in new product design reviews to provide input on supplier quality, functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems (e.g. tools might include: FMEA, Control Plans, supplier part qualification; Gage R&R)
  • Lead problem solving activities in a progressive, team oriented environment using structured problem solving methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma - Fishbone, Process Map, Gage R&R, DOE)
  • Up to 30 or 40% travel may be required both domestic and international

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY:

  • Position requires initiative to identify problems and implement solutions; continuous improvement mindset
  • Must have strong work ethic and have track record of independent work strategies
  • Use formal root cause & countermeasure problem solving processes (e.g. Six Sigma, 8D, 5Why)
  • Understand & implement statistical process controls (SPC) where applicable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for a multi-functional team environment
  • Strong verbal and written/visual communication skills for direct and frequent communication with internal and external customers and suppliers, including international partners (e.g. India, China); web/video conferencing as required
  • Must be able to use PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings including understanding GD&T
  • Experience using mechanical and visual measurement equipment/tools (e.g. CMM, calipers, depth micrometers, surface finish, etc.) in conjunction with engineering drawing requirements
  • Understanding and implementing AQL inspection application
  • Knowledge of Cpk and how to interpret/implement/approve production systems using this statistical method

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. degree required with strong preference given to Engineering majors
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience required with quality engineering and/or supplier quality background(s) given strong preference
  • Experience with international communication (especially in India and/or China) will be a strong preference
  • Experience with ISO 9000
  • Six Sigma green belt or higher training/experience preferred

  • Frequently talk or hear
  • Regularly stand, walk, sit, use hands to finder, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally climb or balance, taste or smell, lifting 25-50 pounds
  • Vision: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust or focus
