SOURCING ENGINEER

 

 

 

Responsible for purchasing technical goods and services for manufacturing operations and prototypes. The ideal candidate will have detailed knowledge of the equipment, materials, and supplies used in the company’s industry and will be able to identify companies that sell them.  The Sourcing Engineer will evaluate suppliers and negotiate purchase agreements.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Along with those identified below, other duties may be assigned

  • Use specialized knowledge to determine that the suppliers’ facility has the machinery, components and supplies needed to efficiently and safely operate and to produce our components
  • Review engineering changes to purchased parts that impact the supplier
  • Select appropriate suppliers
  • Negotiate and award sales agreements to purchase the required products
  • Eliminate waste and variability in the supply chain
  • Identify opportunities and obtain cost savings on purchased parts
  • Maintain Product Cost Road Maps for new product development projects
  • Work with Engineering and Suppliers to achieve manufacturability at lowest cost and achieve Quality requirements

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY:

  • Detail-oriented and driven with the ability to integrate technical knowledge with business acumen
  • Work well independently and are committed to thinking outside the box to achieve results
  • Experience in engineering, procurement and operations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with personal computer and networking, specifically MS Office
  • Ability to analyze bills of material and drawings to understand key requirements
  • Knowledge and direct experience in negotiating contracts and quotes with Contract Manufacturers and Suppliers
  • Ability to identify cost reduction opportunities
  • Able to travel domestic and international (up to 20%)

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant field, required
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in purchasing roles
  • Karrass negotiating experience preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems strongly preferred
