Responsible for supporting customer prototype and production applications by utilizing vehicle system knowledge and programming skills.  A successful application engineer will secure present and future business for InMotion products by flawlessly executing adaptation of the products to create end user value and meet OEM customer requirements.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Along with those identified below, other duties may be assigned. 

  • Programming, emulation, debugging and startup of InMotion applications and systems
  • Document new application projects for future reference
  • Project management
  • Maintain a working knowledge of InMotion products and a perspective of industry practice
  • Provide technical support for sales and marketing
  • Hands-on lab and prototype work
  • Solve customer application problems in a timely manner
  • Follow and improve Application Engineering area processes; contribute to the enhancement of procedures to ensure high quality results on a repeatable basis
  • Work closely with the sales organization to identify new product opportunities; qualify, develop and champion development of our production offering (by application)
  • Identify and enhance the company’s competitive advantage and/or barriers to entry
  • Take on the role of key technical expert for customers
  • Design and debug demonstration and/or evaluation hardware for new products
  • Gather data needed for competitive analysis or product development direction
  • Work cooperatively, constructively, and productively within a culturally diverse, high-growth entrepreneurial environment
  • Perform special studies and tests as needed by customers

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of mathematical skill required
  • Proficient programming and debugging skills (C, C++ experience preferred)
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a professional environment with limited direct supervision
  • Ability and willingness to work directly with customers on resolution of complex technical issues required
  • Have an analytical mind which can apply troubleshooting skills systemically and methodologically to identify root cause and resolve problems
  • Ability to travel nationally and/or internationally on an occasional basis
  • Embedded programming of electric vehicle controls
  • General motion control knowledge, how to troubleshoot and “tune” a motion/vehicle system
  • Hands-on lab work
  • Proactive by nature with a positive attitude and works well in a team setting
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships both internally and externally to facilitate good communication
  • System wiring and safety
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, read/write technical manuals as needed
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Strong programming skills required (C, C++ preferred)
  • Years of experience will vary directly with level of responsibility
